The Breed that built a Nation

A sepia portrait of Clydesdale Leaders in harness

The Clydesdale Story

Feel like harnessing the horses and ploughing the fields…? One furrow and furlong at a time… only an acre a day!

After turning the sod, you can un-hitch ‘em, water, nose-bag and groom your workmates in old slab stables under a hay-thatched roof.

Then retire, sauntering past chooks pecking across your way, to a horse trough and peel down your braces and flannels for a cooling splash and wallow. A good scrub with grandma’s soap... made from old culled sheep boiled down for tallow.

Now stir a black pot of simmering stew on the hob of a seething wood stove. Flop into an old Bentwood rocker by the open fire to savour a tipple of port. Catch lingering rays of sunset from the verandah and puff on a clay pipe….

Snuff out the candle to dream on a straw mattress until the mantle clock chimes. Four-thirty as another day starts before sunrise and again the stables beckon…. More fields to till and grow harvest gold by the Long Reinsman driving his Clydesdale team in harness.

A simple but hard life… almost forgotten.

The Print Style

Clydesdale Brothers is a sepia portrait photograph taken as a hand-held shot in the low afternoon sunlight of the Australian autumn.

Presented professionally, as an inkjet Giclée print on premium canvas, which is hand-stretched on a high quality timber moulding. Then it is coated with protective UV treatments to ensure a stable archival fine art product. It is easy-care, only requiring dusting with a soft cloth and is fitted with d-hooks ready to hang.

Artist’s Proof of Canvas Size: 71H x 107Lcm (28 x 42in).
